“What on earth can you do with this?” I thought, munching my way though some nasty bitter purple leaves that I has thought might be nice with pasta. The leaves in question were from Radicchio – an italian leaved plant that looks like it should be a lettuce and tastes like it should kill. That is except when cooked, when it takes on a complex bitter/savoury flavour. I later turned that radicchio into a rissotto – and aparrently you can grill it (madness) ….
I was inspired to start keeping an archive of recepies and uses for the stranger things that turn up in the vegetable box. Our box is from Riverford and we get some quirky stuff in there as they experiment with traditional varieties of produce that for one reason or another have been more or less abandoned by the supermarkets. So here it is (except it isn’t as I’ve only just set this up….)
